In what is becoming a tradition at Cornerstone, the preciousness of each child has been the focus within Pebbles during third term. To celebrate all that the students have learnt, a special international flavour was present in class today.
Each child came dressed in costume, representing a different nation of the world. Hawaiian girls, a Mexican nino (boy), an Indian girl and even an Italian Chef were amongst the nationalities that made their way into the classroom this morning.
According to Mrs Mandy Wallace, who takes responsibility for this class, it is a fitting end to a term looking at children from around the world.
‘We have spent time looking at different countries and have been introduced each week to a child from a different nation. The emphasis behind each lesson, has been about how we are all special to God and that no matter the colour of our skin or hair, we are all precious’, she said.
Mrs Wallace came dressed as a Hawaiian lady, and Mrs Lane looked decidedly Indian. The students knew what nationality they represented, and delighted in being able to dress up for the day.
‘Bien hecho todo el mundo’ – that’s ‘Well done everyone’ in Spanish.

A second class of students in the Pebbles age-group commenced in Pebbles today due to the enormous popularity and success of this Cornerstone program.
Mrs Wallace and her team of helpers introduced a new group of students to the delights of preparing for Kindy in 2011. This is the first time that this additional class has been offered.
Some of those participating today have transferred from the traditional Friday class, whilst for others, this is the first time they have stepped into the classroom.
The students were settled and happily entertained, in what was a very successful first morning.
Pebbles is Cornerstone’s preparation for Kindy program. It is designed for children who will commence Kindergarten in the following year. It offers a Kindy type program which helps to establish these youngsters in the routines and activities that they will experience once they commence their formal education. Its success is evident by the increasing popularity and waiting lists that have led to this second class.
We welcome each new family to our community here at Cornerstone. We also hope that you will find the benefits that the Pebbles program provides will help put your child on the road to a lifetime of excellence in education.

Cornerstone’s Pebbles class is now taking applications for the 2010 school year.
Places are limited for this very popular program, which will offer children who turn 4 between July 1, 2010 and December 31, 2010 the opportunity to participate in Kindy style activities. Pebbles operates as a transition to Kindy one morning per week.
There is no expectation that any student who participates in Pebbles need continue on to Kindy in 2011 at the College. Therefore we would encourage any family within our community who has suitably aged children to apply.
Should you (or any families you know of), be interested in participating, please contact the College office as soon as possible. The current co-ordinator, Mrs Kath Bailey would love to provide interested parties with documentation and information that will give an overview of the benefits Pebbles offers. She can also take you through the process of application.
So, spread the word. Pebbles is taking applications now.
