It is the College’s privilege to introduce an exceptional teacher who takes responsibitlity for the Year 3 class. Tina King has taught with Cornerstone for the past 11 years. She studied at Edith Cowan University in Bunbury and holds a Bachelor of Education.
Tina feels very called to her chosen profession, and chose to study as a mature aged student when her own children were teenagers. She is passionate about her place at the College and loves the ability she has to make a positive impact in a student’s life.
Tina seriously undertakes to develop a program that enables each of her students to reach their academic potential. Having previously spent time teaching in Year 1, and also Year 6, this year group gives her the opportunity to prepare each child for their entry into the middle school years and take more responsibility for their learning.
Tina believes that students need to be organised, strive for personal excellence and foster cooperative social skills. She is passionate about students learning at their own level of ability and believes that they can become discouraged if work is too difficult or bored if too easy. Consequently she works hard to modify tasks and incorporate open ended activities so all students have opportunity for success.
As with all year groups, the Year 3 class operates within the guidelines of the Curriculum Framework which identifies a number of learning outcomes which children should demonstrate. Additionally, all students can access the Overdrive Program as well as the Leaning Support Centre if deemed necessary.
Tina King believes that an important aspect of teaching is partnering with parents to guide the students at the College. Her belief is that this partnership can see students grow and develop in their academic studies, as well as spiritually, emotionally and socially.
She is also a fan of the multiple intelligence theory and endeavours to incorporate music, movement and verbal group work to give variety to lessons.
When asked about the part of her job that she loves the most, Tina said; ”I love the variety and flexibility of this occupation. I feel very fortunate to work in a school that embraces teamwork, Christian Biblical values and supportive leadership.”
