It is with the greatest of pleasure that the College can introduce to you our Home Economics teacher, Mrs Kerry Cross.
Kerry comes to Cornerstone with a Bachelor of Education from what is now Edith Cowan University. She graduated in 1985 and can claim to having 24 years of teaching experience behind her.
Kerry is a popular teacher who takes the greatest of pleasure in seeing her students produce work of the highest standard. She enjoys sharing specific skills with those in her classes, but also considers that attributes such as organisation and perseverance are also very necessary outcomes.
Kerry loves her job and enjoys getting to know the students she has the pleasure of teaching. ”I love watching the kids grow up. Over a period of time, students move through the year groups and I have the privilege of seeing them learn about life.”
Her approach with her students is warm and respectful. She treats each child in her class as she would her own children. ”I believe that treating a student with dignity and respect is so necessary and I hope that in all the things I do with my students, this comes across”.
Kerry is very skilled at helping her students plan and prepare for particular events. For instance, the students may host an International Food Feast which has students planning, preparing, cooking and then serving food up to friends and family. Similarly, over the course of a term, a class may be required to successfully complete all the elements for hosting a birthday party. It is more than just about cooking or sewing – it is the whole event that is considered with Kerry’s classes.
Kerry is also a strong believer in her students being aware of the needs of others. On some occasions her students will cook food that is suitable for freezing, which can be donated to the Cornerstone Church of Christ Care Team. These meals will then be distributed to those in the Busselton community who need a helping hand. In these instances, students can successfully learn the required content of a class whilst helping others. The character development of a student is as important to Kerry as the mastery of skills.
Kerry is very approachable and enjoys teaching her students useful and useable skills. Her students hold her in the highest regard and produce work of the highest quality. The College is delighted to have her as part of the Secondary teaching team.
