One of the great assets of Cornerstone are the classes taken by Mr David van der Tang.  David is responsible for the Applied Information Technology (AIT) and Media Production and Analysis (MPA) subjects.

David comes to the College with 15 years of teaching experience and a vast array of qualifications.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons), a Masters of Arts, a Masters of Education, a Higher Diploma in Education and a Graduate Certificate in Educational Technology.  He has studied at the University of Natal in South Africa, as well as at the University of Southern Queensland.  With this impressive assortment of honours to his name, it is no wonder that students are achieving the most remarkable results under his tutelage.

David thoroughly enjoys his work and his students clearly love his classes.  ”I enjoy working with all sorts of different people and sharing a small part of their life’s journey.  It is very exciting to see students working creatively.  I am always inspired when  a major project (film, website etc) is completed.”

Within the Applied Information Technology class, David focuses on the use of information systems within a business environment.  He places significant emphasis on web based technologies, especially html and Flash.  The practical side of the course involves building websites and related applications.  His students are delivered theory which draws on management studies and the use of networks in business environments.

Media Production and Analysis is a course built around the study and making of films.  Within his classes, students can expect to learn the basics of cinematography and gain the ability to engage with key theoretical concepts with regard to film.  A very popular and cutting-edge element that is emerging in this course, is the use of blue screening and 3D modelling and animation.  Students have been producing the most remarkable work that has in itself drawn media attention.  Access to samples of student work is available for viewing on a website that David runs for his classes.  It includes course content, assignment sheets and showcases student work.  The url is http://davidvandertang.com/school

David is an incredibly popular teacher with his students, many of whom consider his classes to be the highlight of their week.  David is deeply respected within the teaching team at the College, and his willingness to assist those who are more technologically challenged is always appreciated.
