The Year 4 class at Cornerstone Christian College is in the competent hands of Mr Caleb Murphy. Caleb holds a Bachelor of Education (Kindy to Year 10), a Certificate III in Health and Fitness, a Certificate IV in Sport Development, and is also working towards a Certificate in Horticulture. This vast array of qualifications mean that Caleb is not only qualified to teach the Year 4 class, but that he also brings a wealth of knowledge to the Phys Ed classes he takes for students in Years 2 to 6. He completed his tertiary studies at Edith Cowan University in Bunbury, and Bunbury TAFE.
Caleb is a very enthusiastic and fun-loving teacher who delights in helping his students find joy and passion in their learning as well as in life. He finds great satisfaction in seeing students attempt challenges set before them – and to see them grow and be rewarded through the process. He believes that each child in his care can grow, on and off the pitch, by persevering and working through the problems they encounter.
When asked to describe his teaching style, Caleb shared his theory on success. ‘I stand by the “have a go” policy. Students can give up so quickly due to the unknown being scary! I am often heard saying to students – don’t be defeated by it – overcome – find a way.’
Caleb’s greatest desire for his students is for them to know the love of God in every aspect of their lives. He believes that partnered with this is the need for each child to know that they are in safe hands and that they can have a go. A student, who is allowed to have an attempt – free of ridicule – is more likely to reach their true potential. He doesn’t require the children to be brilliant at the start, but does ask that they bring an attitude of brilliance which he can work with.
Caleb’s personal loves are based in the outdoors. He is into camping, four-wheel-driving, kayaking, rock climbing, abseiling and hiking. This abundance of energy means he has the stamina required to keep up with a class of active students!
Year 4 at the College is one in which students will learn to work more independently and take on additional responsibility for their work and actions. It is also a time of consolidating reading, writing and spelling skills in preparation for the all important future years.
Students in this year group access all the major learning areas that come under the guidelines of the Curriculum Framework. They can also participate in the College’s Overdrive Program, as well as utilising the Learning Support Centre if deemed necessary.
We believe that under Caleb’s capable care, our Year 4 students will flourish, and that they will enjoy the process of learning. His youthful enthusiasm and easygoing manner make him popular amongst students and his peers alike.
