Mr Andrew Dijkstra

Welcome to Year 6D

Year 6 at Cornerstone is divided into two small size classes, which give students the advantage of a specialist teacher for Maths and English.  Mr Andrew Dijkstra is the highly experienced teacher who is particularly dedicated to the Maths stream in this year group and can offer an excellent extension program for students who may benefit.  However, Andrew is also a highly skilled and committed educator in all aspects of the Year 6 curriculum.

Andrew hails from South Africa and has taught with us here at the College since 2007.  He comes with 16 years of educational experience.

Andrew holds a Higher Diploma in Education (4 years) from the University of Kwa Zulu Natal South Africa.  He and his young family have now made Busselton home – for which the College is grateful.  He is well liked and respected within the Cornerstone community.

Mr Dijkstra believes that as Year 6 is the final year of Primary School, it is an important year.  It is critical that students learn the fundamental skills they will need to cope in the secondary environment.   Andrew is dedicated to preparing the students for this major event.     It’s busy and exciting year that culminates with the Year 6 graduation ceremony where each child is recognised as they make the transition from the primary to the senior school.

As with all year groups, the Year 6 class operates within the guidelines of the Curriculum Framework which identifies a number of learning outcomes which children should demonstrate.  Additionally, all students can access the Overdrive Program as well as the Leaning Support Centre if deemed necessary.

Andrew delights in inspiring children to learn.  He particularly enjoys watching children rise above adversity and achieving success through determination.

When asked about his teaching philosophy, Andrew said; ”I believe that success and self discipline go hand in hand and my teaching style tries to encourage children to increasingly take responsibility for their own studies and routines. Work hard and play hard is also a philosophy that I follow!”
