Welcome to Year 3 at Cornerstone Christian College. In Year 3 our students are in the capable hands of Miss Megan Voigt.
Megan has been with the College since 2007 and responsible for the Year 3 class since 2008. She comes to Cornerstone with a Bachelor of Education (Primary) from Edith Cowan University in Bunbury. She is a well liked and valuable member of the teaching team at the College.
Megan believes that Year 3 is a wonderful time of learning for each child. Students are captivated with a real interest and love for learning about the world around them. Year 3 students are also consolidating and expanding their skills, including literacy and numeracy, and building upon the foundations previously taught.
A significant part of Year 3 is reading and comprehension. Over the earlier school years the emphasis has been on learning how to read, but now the children are at the beginning stages of reading to learn. This year sees students also starting to enjoy reading short novels. Miss Voigt believes that literacy is a basis for most learning areas.
Megan finds it fascinating the way her students learn new concepts differently and enjoys the challenge of reaching each child in a slightly different way. She also passionate about teaching art and colour and how that relates to the amazing world God has placed us in.
Students in this year group access all the major learning areas that come under the guidelines of the Curriculum Framework. They can also participate in some extension work if suitable, as well as utlising the Learning Support Centre if deemed necessary.
Megan is an enthusiastic educator who loves the opportunity to guide her students on how to make responsible and respectful decisions that can be valuable skills for life. Having this occur in a safe and secure environment furthers this outcome. Megan stated that; “In Year 3 a lot of attention is given to showing respect and good manners. These are foundational skills that are necessary to be a contributing and valuable member of society.”
