Johannie (pronounced you-honey) Meyer is an extremely versatile teacher at Cornerstone, who delivers excellence in education across a whole range of year groups and subjects.

When asked to describe what she teaches, Johannie said ”They name it and I teach it!”

Johannie comes to us from South Africa, and has had teaching experience in three continents.  She is therefore an obvious choice for teaching our LOTE (Language Other Than English) classes.  Additionally, she specialises in mathematics across a number of year groups.

Johannie completed her tertiary education at Paarl College of Education and the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa.  The University of Stellenbosch is highly regarded and considered one of the top four Universities in South Africa.  She completed four years of study to obtain her Teaching Diploma and Higher Education Diploma (Junior Primary), which is the equivalent of our Bachelor of Education degree.

Since those early days, Johannie has had a great deal of experience from a range of educational establishments.  She operated her own Kindergarten and computer school in South Africa, taught mathematics at St. Mary’s Church of England School and was responsible for the Nursery class at St. Albans Catholic Primary School in the United Kingdom.   After immigrating to Australia in 2003, she has worked in both government and private schools in Perth.    She and her family relocated to Busselton in 2008 and Johannie has taught with Cornerstone since then.

Johannie’s vast experience is just part of the reason we consider it a privilege to have her presence in the corridors at Cornerstone.  She is also valuable to us because of her heart for seeing every child develop their academic potential, but also to see their character grow as well.  ”I love to see kids obtaining self discipline and a desire to do what is right – not because they want to please the teacher or to make people happy.  I love seeing my students develop a heart that is honest before God and that their character is deeper than just the surface”, she said.

Johannie considers her role at the College as more than just a job.  She sees herself as working for God and instilling His love and truth into the lives of every student she encounters.
